We have a big vision

Mustang Acres is a small non-profit farm with a big vision.

We are a farm for all levels of ability

Our motto is, “Growing Abilities, Rooted in Community”

The vision of Mustang Acres is to provide Green Care to the neurodiverse population and a third place to socialize, interact and build friendships while engaging in meaningful activities on our beautiful farm.

We are a Climate Beneficial™ Transitional (CBT) farm and producers of sustainable, nonGMO fiber from our flock of sheep.

Our farm is all about building community. We are families with children on the autism spectrum and we seek to connect with the neurodiverse population, some of whom are unreliable speakers or non-speaking. We also seek to connect with those in their circle, including the parents, guardians, caregivers, siblings and loved ones, so they know they are not alone in this journey.

Mustang Acres is the “watering hole” where community members gather, interact, play, learn and find human connection.

Our Vision

  • To provide thoughtfully planned space for Green Care and multifunctional agriculture
  • Advancing equity and social justice for persons with disabilities through participation in farm based activities
  • Improving overall health of participants through engagement in gardening and farm animal care activities. The activities encourage physical movement, gross and fine motor planning, which offers a method of tackling the effects of obesity, anxiety and depression, and other mental health disorders
  • To provide multi-sensory experiences through movement, sound, smell, and visual stimuli found in nature, to promote sensory integration
  • Providing opportunities for non-classroom based experiential learning, and making connections with communities involved with fiber arts, grazing cooperatives, environmental conservation, habitat restoration and regenerative land practices.
  • To provide a third space for neurodiverse individuals and their circle of family and friends, where they feel a sense of belonging and community
  • To provide a welcoming environment for engagement in activities that bring people close to nature, to improve mental and physical health, and promote a sense of well being and social connection
  • Life skills training through engagement in farm based activities to increase self-confidence and skill development

Community

We are a community of families and friends of persons with developmental disabilities, who fall all across the autism spectrum.

We are gardeners, teachers and educators, therapists, tech workers, retirees, parents and grandparents, siblings and health care providers. Some of us have green thumbs, some have brown thumbs.

We come from all walks of life, with our varied and colorful lived experiences.

We have all been touched by disabilities across the spectrum.

Having a sense of belonging, connectedness and building community are important to us.
